#4 Colour Changing Potions

When I think of Halloween, I often think of creepy things such as skeletons, zombies, and witches. However, Halloween is also filled with a lot of magic, such as flying broomsticks ๐Ÿงนand talking cats ๐Ÿ™€

I decided that I would dress up as a witch this year, so decided I should try and incorporate some science into my ๐Ÿง™โ€โ™€๏ธ witchy potions!ย

How do I make potions with some household items you may ask? Well, it all starts with red cabbage.

When we boil red cabbage, it loses its colour, and in turn, it turns the water purple.ย

However, besides turning water purple, red cabbage has another super power which makes it an excellent potion ingredient. When you add something acidic or basic to the purple cabbage water, it changes colour.

This allows us to make lots of different potions using very little ingredients ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜Ž

When I think about witches potions, I often think about bubbling/foamy water. Well, this can also be achieved with the magic cabbage water ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ

If we combine some vinegar and baking soda with a little washing up liquid in the cabbage water we can get cool foamy potions!ย

I had to make sure I was near the kitchen sink before attempting to make my foamy potions as they can get quite messy!

I have prepared an experiment guide where you can find a list of materials, instructions and the science behind this potion.
